Essie Nail Polish

I have never tried Essie until today as I have never really felt the need to. The white lids look a little cheap and I didn't want to stray from formulas I was used to, plus they are not easily accessible in the UK. I have always been very happy with Nails inc, OPI, Barry M and Revlon to name a few. I managed to get hold of some Essie polishes via a swap to kill my curiosity.

The colours I have are perfect for summer, here's what they are called and how I would describe the colours:

  • Pretty Edgy - Muted emerald green (Summer Collection)
  • Pink Parka - Neon hot pink
  • Lapis of Luxury - Milky blue (Resort Collection)
  • Haute as Hello - Milky pale coral (Summer Collection)
  • Knockout Pout - Milky pink (Summer Collection)
  • Splash of Grenadine - Bright milky lilac (Resort Collection)

I applied 'Splash of Grenadine' on to my nails which took two coats, the application was great and I love how bright the colour is which looks much nicer with my skin tone than a pale lilac. It has a gorgeous creamy finish with pink undertones and I honestly can't stop looking at my nails. I would totally recommend this shade, it's definitely a summer must have!

See swatch below..

I applied 'Haute as hello' to my toes, and couldn't believe how streaky the formula was. The 1st coat looked scary, and the 2nd coat didn't do much to cover it up. It took a total of 4 coats to make it look decent. The colour itself is very beautiful and unique. It's a pale coral with undertones of peach and pink. However, after 4 coats I did find that it was much brighter almost giving off a neon vibe. I would only recommend this shade if you are incredibly patient.

Have you tried Essie? if so, what are your favourites?

I'm currently sporting Watermelon - definitely recommend it!

I've been really impressed with the Essie varnishes I've used so far (still to come up against the 'bad' ones) and I think they may just be overtaking OPI for me right now :)

@glamour rouge I am taking note, thank you :)

Hi Muhsine, I have a few Essie polishes that I really like as well but I must say that Splash of Grenadine looks gorgeous! And where did you get that amazing ring??

LipGlossGossip said...

Splash of Grenadine looks really pretty! I'm not too fond of Essie. I tried a few shades and they were all streaky. Maybe I'll give them another shot and try Splash of Grenadine. :)

Yay, another essie fan! I can't think off the top of my head which my fave colours are, I think St Lucia Lilac may be one...either way, I think the formulation is wonderful. Much better than OPI!

@cat St Lucia lilac looks SO pretty!

I have Turqouise & Caicos and Van D'Go. Van D'Go is a nightmare to apply, but Turquoise & Caicos was great - I think Essie is very hit and miss like that, but the colours make it worth it!

Really lovely color, especially the one with four coats! Nicer than what the BB housemates have been using even on the boys, that's for sure.

OMG I've been looking everywhere for a bright purple nail varnish and this one is so lovely! How much are they? Do you know where I could get hold of them?

I desperately need to buy a Essie nail polish, so gorgeous!

Muhsine said...

@Sami I checked on some websites and they say £9.60, others say £6.95, mini sets on asos are around £16, or you can always check ebay.x

i have a blue one from their summer collection, and a pastel green. i am also a nail technician and i find with watery colours, especially new ones, leave them open against the window in sunlight so they dry a little then it becomes a bit thicker. the consistency then should be alot better and two coats will do fine. usually if this still gets too thick i have professional thinner at work which is great but two drops of PURE ACETONE wears it a bit thinner.

@TzeYien89 thanks for the tip, I will try it :)

ah.. I've been wanting to try essie for such a long time! I hate how it's so expensive in the UK though!

all of those colours are so pretty and they will look lovely in the summer. x

Oh, wow! Love the colors. THey look great for summer.. Thanks, for sharing!

I'm a fan of Essie nail polishes, absolutely loove them. From the summer collection i have Haute as hello and it didn't get streaky at all. Did you notice the matte finish that the formula has? :)

There are a couple of Essie polishes free with Tatler that comes out on Thurs 8th, see this blog post I found for more details!

Gosh the colour range you've got there look amazing, so summery and beach ready! I've not tried any Essie nail polish's yet, but then I've only just bought my first bottle of OPI so I guess I'm late on the band wagon as whole anyway :)

You picked out some nice colors :) I have used a sheer pink-nude for years now..it's called Sheer Bliss. I think they do good mauves (when you're in the mood for that), but in general have good formulas! x

LilyLipstick said...

That's such a gorgeous colour!
I find Essie nail polishes really hard to apply, the brush is so thin so it's really hard to avoid streaks. The shades you have here all look so pretty and summery :) x

WOW, that is bright, very gorgeous! Did you apply a top coat?

Omg isn't 'Splash of grenadine' SO gorgeous?? Lapis of luxury has just as nice of a formula. I bought two neon colors from them and they are so streaky..guess it just depends :/

I absolutely love the shade "Bermuda Shorts," I feel like I can't stop looking at my nails either.

Completely off-topic, but I love your H&M ring...! :)

Essie is either a hit or miss... and miss more often as of recently... Van D' Go is pretty bad, just like you described Haute as Hello, and even though it's a pretty colour, I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone... Would love to try Haute as Hello too, but avoided it for that reason...

But I have older Essie nail polishes, and the application is pretty smooth, not sure if it has to do with those pastel shades or they 've re-formulated their nail polishes...

I am more interested in that fabulous ring you're wearing!

Holy cr*p, this is BEAUTIFUL!

My favourite Essie colour (until now!) has always been Lollipop.

A dramatic pillar-box red with slight orange undertones, it looks sensational but applies with difficulty because of having such a watery formulation.

This would be my main criticism of Essie...

Thin brush + Watery Formulation = Streaky Disaster!
